Winter in 2015 was drier and cooler on average, with very cold nights in early spring, but fortunately no frosts in the vineyard. Early summer heat promoted early bud burst and consistent warm to hot days with cool nights allowed for a slow ripening period, resulting in premium fruit with true varietal characters.
Pinot Gris was planted 3 years ago in Perkins Block on our Heathfield estate vineyard and harvested at 12.5 Baume.
The 2016 Shady Violet Pinot Gris is vibrant and refreshing with abundant green apples and citrus, underlying mineral notes and hints of leatherwood honey. With a balanced acidity and clean, crisp finish it is the perfect partner to Asian cuisine.
